Greetings from the International Astronomical Search Collaboration
School Folders Available
The team folders for the Pan-STARRS Asteroid Search Campaign that starts on March 28th are activated at the IASC home site http://iasc.hsutx.edu. When image sets become available, they will be placed into the folders and you will be immediately notified. Each team gets its own sets...no duplicates.
To gain access to your folder, you need the following information:
* User ID: ***/ Password: *** (註: 請向老師索取)
Please do not share this user ID and password information with anyone other than those participating in the IASC asteroid search campaigns.
Astrometrica & MPC Reports
Using Astrometrica, your students should download and analyze their image sets within 3 days. I recommend that both schools in a team look first at the images on their own. At that point, you can compare results and discuss any differences in your reports. It is important to have two sets of eyes looking over the images sets. This helps assure that no discoveries will be missed.
Remember, the Pan-STARRS Asteroid Search Campaign is not a competition. It is not a race. It is a scientific effort undertaken by research teams. Your students are participating in one of the teams, and will share the discovery credit.
You need to check the MPC reports for accuracy, being sure to remove any false signatures. Once the reports are correct, attach them as a text file and send them by email to iascsearch@hsutx.edu<mailto:iascsearch@hsutx.edu>. It is important that you do not send the reports to the MPC or any other location.
Need Help?
If you are having problems installing and using Astrometrica, do not hesitate to contact
Ginger Anderson ginger.anderson@netxv.net<mailto:ginger.anderson@netxv.net> or
profgingie@gmail.com<mailto:profgingie@gmail.com>.
You can also contact Denise Rothrock at drothrock@madisonvillecisd.org<mailto:drothrock@madisonvillecisd.org>.
Ginger and Denise are long time IASC volunteers and participants. They conduct teacher training workshops for IASC, and can help.
In the meanwhile...
Happy Hunting!!
